    NUCTECH: Reinforcing Airport Security

    Follow NUCTECH on :

Professor Zhiqiang CHEN, CEO, Chairman & President
In aviation security, X-Ray systems play a crucial role in scanning passenger baggage and cargo for detecting illegal substances or contraband. Alongside, advanced technologies such as Computed Tomography (CT) and millimeter-wave are gaining momentum, opening new possibilities for airports to strike a balance between security and efficiency. Contrary to traditional ways, these novel techniques boost detection capabilities without penalizing the airports for intrusiveness, inconvenience, and long queues.

Driven by an unwavering commitment to innovation, NUCTECH—an advanced security and inspection solution and service provider—brings in robust inspection products and integrated security solutions to deliver the transformation that airport checkpoints await. By blending innovative technologies and powerful data analytics, NUCTECH has introduced its Smart Checkpoint Security Solution, a secure and interconnected aviation security network, which increases security effectiveness, operational efficiency and offers better passenger experience to the aviation community.

With rich experience in system integration, NUCTECH provides a broad range of product series to accommodate the requirements of various airports for detecting and interdicting hidden threats.

We consider it our responsibility to utilize state-of-the-art technologies to guard against threats emerging in landside, airside, and perimeter of airports

“We consider it our responsibility to utilize state-of-the-art technologies to guard against threats emerging in landside, airside, and perimeter of airports,” begins Professor Zhiqiang CHEN, CEO, Chairman and President at NUCTECH. He goes on to mention that while X-ray systems are widely used in airports for baggage inspection, they sometimes fail to identify ingenious concealments with overlaid items. To that end, the company has introduced Kylin Ti, its latest CT inspection system designed specially to check carry-on baggage.

Kylin Ti, a core element of the Smart Checkpoint Security Solution, utilizes CT technology to scan baggage in a spiral way and then generate 3D, slice and DR images in one scan. In turn, the device assists security officers in overcoming the problem of overlapping and finding any potential threats through a 360-degree rotational view. After gaining ECAC EDS CB C3 approval, this new baggage screening device would allow air travelers to leave liquids and electronics in their bags when going through a security checkpoint. This would reduce a passenger’s waiting time and increase operational efficiencies by rendering more precise imaging and more accurate explosives detection. By incorporating advanced millimeter-wave imaging technology, automatic screening lane, and matrix networking, NUCTECH’s Smart Checkpoint Security Solution serves as an interconnected, automatic, and intelligent platform.
In addition, the AI-powered software further replenishes each component’s function as a smart sensor and data source, collected and collated to a data platform to generate insights. “This would transform the security paradigm through a comprehensive fusion of physical and digital screening while offering new possibilities for a personalized security experience for every passenger,” mentions Professor CHEN.

An offshoot of the prestigious Tsinghua University, the equivalent of MIT in China, NUCTECH is privileged to enjoy robust R&D capabilities. With strong ties with the university, the company leverages exceptional talents and brilliant ideas to stay at the forefront of innovation. NUCTECH consistently invests over 10 percent of its annual turnover in R&D to address present and future challenges. Besides, by collaborating with end-users, government authorities, and other research institutions, NUCTECH explores new security solutions and incorporates them in quick applications.

With an aim to embrace and harness newer disruptive technologies, NUCTECH has set up an Artificial Intelligence R&D Center, dedicated to research and development of smart inspection algorithms and solutions. The company believes the combination of this technology with its scanners, regardless of existing and new installations, will deliver improved security and best value for its customers. NUCTECH is also utilizing emerging technologies such as robotics to enable more flexible and robust security screening for various occasions and further close the loopholes in places like landside or arrival counters.
